Our Story

Founded officially in 2006, The Village of Hope (VOH) is the realization of Helen Rusimbi's lifelong commitment to nurturing and uplifting children in need. What began as an orphanage for children who were either orphaned or whose parents could no longer care for them, quickly became a beacon of hope and love. VOH provides children with access to education through the payment of school fees, nutritious food, and clean water, fostering an environment where they can thrive.

As time passed, The Village of Hope expanded its reach beyond the orphanage. Known affectionately as BiBi Helen within the community, Helen Rusimbi extended her care to include school fees for children from low-income families, groceries, clothing, and emotional support. Through partnerships with friends from America, local community members, and colleges in Morogoro, Tanzania, VOH's vision continued to grow.

In 2019, VOH further expanded to include the Modeco Prayers Center. Located on the grounds of The Village of Hope, this church offers a spiritual home for community members without one. Sunday services are held at 10:30 am, followed by a special lesson and lunch for attendees, ensuring spiritual nourishment alongside physical care.

In February 2024, Helen Rusimbi passed away unexpectedly. Yet, her vision endures with unwavering strength and passion. She dreamt of establishing a primary and secondary school, supporting mothers in the community, and creating a place that truly embodied hope, community, and support. Helen believed in the old proverb, "it takes a village to raise a child," and she dedicated her life to building a village where everyone felt like her child.

Today, The Village of Hope stands as a testament to Helen’s legacy, continuing to provide love, support, and hope to all who come through its doors.
